Egg Retrieval

Nearly 36 hours after the injection of ovarian stimulation, it is time for egg retrieval; the process is done under sedation. To make the process pain-free, only sedation is used, not general anesthesia; this process requires 15 to 20 minutes and needs highly experienced doctors. Healthcare providers retrieve the healthy or mature eggs, then the eggs are transferred to the embryo lab for fertilization.

Fertilization Of Eggs

In this stage, male and female gametes retrieved from the couple reach the lab, and the mature eggs are fertilized with sperm. This method can be performed using two methods; the first one is natural, in which the petri dish is left alone for fertilization.  But for some couples, artificial insemination is adopted, where sperm cells are injected directly into mature eggs for fertilization.

Transferring The Embryos 

The next step of the IVF procedure is embryo transfer; this step is performed after 3 to 6 days of the fertilization process. The embryologist examines the healthiest embryos with the help of a microscope; after mutual understanding, it is decided how many embryos should be placed in the uterus of a female and after all these procedures, a blood test confirms the pregnancy.
